County Fair

Last weekend we made the long drive back to MN for our home town county fair.  It was a fun, busy weekend.  Eric participated in two tractor pulls, I think he pulled a total of six or seven times.  We watched his niece and nephew show dairy and beef cattle.  Grace and her cousin showed dairy calves.  The kids stayed at their aunt's house a couple of nights and at grandma and grandpa's a couple nights as well.  We worked on clearing some more things out of our house and garage.  Had Eric's cousin take some updated family pictures of us and the kids.  And stayed in our house for what will probably be the last time.  Not to mention, spending every spare minuet at the fair.  Like I said, it was a busy weekend!

Grace had fun showing the calf.  We didn't have a chance to work with them at all before the day they showed. I tried to lead it around the yard earlier in the morning but it didn't work out very well.  Fortunately their older cousins were around to help with the calves at the fair.  Instead of judging the calf or the kids, the judges just talk with the kids and ask them a couple of questions.  It is to get them used to the format of showing so that when the kids are older they know what to expect when the judging is real.  When the judge asked Grace what kind of cow she had she replied, rolling her eyes: a calf!

Micah and JJ got to ride in tractors a couple of times, that was by far the most exciting thing for them.  For weeks before the fair Micah asked every night if he got to go to the tractor pull the next day.

A family that we are friends with was able to come out to the fair one afternoon.  It was nice to be able to spend some time with them and their little girl.  She had so much fun!  JJ and I walked through some of the animal barns with them.  They enjoyed looking at the sheep and pigs and trying to pet everything.
